What Does the Lord Require?
This question is asked in the book of Micah, and the response? “to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God”. What does it mean to act justice and love mercy? Aren’t they the same?
The church is very good at “mercy” work. We have food pantries, diaper drives, clothing closets. All necessary in order to provide for the people of God. Imagine a world where we didn’t need any of that. A world where all people were guaranteed that their basic human rights were met. A world where people had plenty to eat, a safe place to sleep and the ability to make their own choices for their lives. That is justice and God’s justice is fairness and righteousness for all people. God created the world and called it good. God put us all in the world on a level playing field and in our freewill, humanity opted to ignore God’s creation. Humanity chose to create systems that benefit a few over the many and God is crying out. God is crying out and God is asking for justice of all of God’s people so that we can all live free and abundantly as God intended.
One way you can seek justice in your community is going to the Nehemiah Action Assembly on May 6th. The Good Faith Network will be asking our community leaders to do justice for the people in our county. Over 1600 people will be gathered using a powerful voice that cannot be ignored. You are invited to be part of this work. To use your voice for the voiceless and demand change when it comes to mental health, homelessness, affordable housing and elder care. Show up, it’s worth it as we humble ourselves before God and community and seek justice for all.
Always know you are enough, you are worthy and you are beloved
