Reflections on the Passages:
Joel is a prophet in Judah during a time of devastation. Famine, locusts, and despair is ravaging their homes. Joel sounds the trumpet in Zion for all people to repent and return to God. Joel reminds the people that even when they have turned away, even when they have failed to hear the cries of the people, God will forgive and bring them back into the fold of God’s love. Jesus reminds the people of the same cry in the Gospel. No matter how much you try and silence the will of God, even the stones will cry out.
- How is our world like the times of despair in Judah?
- What stones (grace, mercy, love, equality, neighboring, justice) are you setting aside and need to listen to?
- How can you hear the cries of the stones this Lenten season?
